Hi, I am new to the group. I have a cat that I got from the humane society in Feburary. When i got her, she was a kitten, but they didnt know her exact age because she was a stray. I was bugging my boyfriend of 2 years to get a kitty so finally on valentines day i opened up a collar...that was my permission
Anyways...to keep a long story short...I got her and she is a tortis type...i named her Pickles...and she is so loving and adorable. She is VERY vocal. I spoiled her to death...she has so many toys that everyone yells about cuz there all over the place...but she is a very spoiled cat. I have 2 questions if you dont mind helping me out. 1 is: Should i feel guilty while im at work that she is all alone. During the summer one of the kids will be here, but we do more outdoors stuff and i just feel so guilty...which leads me to question 2, when we go on vacation from Wed. through Monday.....i dont know what to do!!!!! Im gonna cry my eyes out when we leave. She will have plenty of food and water....my 12 year old cousin is going to come over and play with her...but im going to miss her soooo much. She's like a child to me. (I dont even have kids, my bf does) But i dont know what to do about leaving her home. PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you sooooo much!
Love me and pickles!

As long as you have someone to check on her that is good because anything could happen... I am not sure what to do for you... My pets go with me or to my moms house and she lets them hear my voice every day on the phone...
Sorry I am not much help...

If possible I would have someone older than 12 checking in on your cat, just in case something goes wrong and a vet is needed would the 12 yr old know what to do?

Hi there! well, cats are known for their independent nature, so she should be fine if you leave her alone for the day-but if she seems lonely, you could maybe think about getting her a friend...another kitten or cat, if possible...well, hope that I helped!

I would say during the day while your at work she will be fine. From the sounds of it she has lots of toys to play with. I'm pretty sure my cat justs sleeps all day while I'm at work because when I get home she gets up and stretches for like 5 minutes.

Anytime we go away, we get a catsitter. Someone we trust (an adult preferably) to take care of Trout. But if the 12 year old is mature and responsible enough to know what to do in an emergency, then perhaps that will be fine. I would make sure she goes by at EVERY day though at least.

Hope that helps

You might check your vet's office to see if a vet tech would be willing to check in on her everday (or every other day) . My tortie, Penelope, has to receive asthma medication twice a day so when I go away, I have to hire a cat sitter who knows how to administer this. Luckily, one of the vet tech's at Penelope's vet specialist's office, has become my regular cat sitter. I pay her $10 a visit which is actually, a pretty good rate for a petsitter in my area. She comes in, scoops the litter, plays with the cats, brushes them, feeds them, etc.

Anyway, if you can't find an adult friend to check in on Pickles, it might ease your mind if you hired someone to check in on her a few times while you are gone.

lol I think Pickles is an AWESOME name.

I just wanted to say CONGRATS on your first kitty! I bet she's beautiful!

When I was readying your thread I started to laugh, only because Jackson gets anything and everything, my boyfriend gets so FRUSTERATED...hehehe, My mom went out and bought a actualy "Kitty Stroller" for him so we can all go walking together...hehehe

Pickles will be just fine as far as being left home for the day. Also Iam sure everything will be just fine when she is home for your time away! Like everyone else said, just be sure to let him know what to do in an emergency situation!

Good luck...

Congrats on becommin an meowmy!!!!
