Hey all, thanks so much for your comments and concerns. Sasha is feeling much better now that he's taking his L lysine chews. His eyes are 100% better and his energy and appetite are ferocious again. He's back to being a healthy three month old kitten. I am going to continue the 500mg 2/x of L lysine for the next day the next three days and then just do one 500mg chew once a day for maintenance. When he becomes an adult at one, I'll just do the 250mg once a day. Does that work?
When my two ferals first came to me at 6-7 months they had a severe herpes outbreak. Famciclovir and lysine cleared it up. I gave them 500 mg. of lysine each daily for another couple of weeks. Then I continued to give them lysine (250 each daily) for a year after and then stopped. That was two and a half years ago and neither has had an outbreak since.
