I had a "stray" that I fed and interacted with for 6-8 months. Then she became pregnant and delivered in a pipe. After a week, she allowed me with much talking and slow moves to relocate them to a large protected box under a tarp for protection. I fed her 2x day for 3 weeks. The kittens were doing well and she was there and enjoyed petting, brushing. I expected to take her into being fixed as my outdoor cat, and the kittens fixed and adopted. (I work as a foster for animal control and adoption. I have 3 cats of my own.) I had to go away for 5 days. I arranged with neighbors where and when to feed her. They are not as dedicated as I am, and I feel she was fed randomly. Since I came back kittens AND mother have disappeared. I have looked and talked to neighboring properties, with no cat found. I recognize queens move their kittens around 3-4 weeks, but I have trouble believing she would move so far away she could not hear me call, or I could see her beginning to walk about. I'm feeling suspicious they met with foul play. The box/nest was clean as a whistle and undisturbed. Do feral/stray queens disappear with their kittens from area that has been their daily home before getting pregnant?
