My cat is relatively small and she is nursing her litter of 6 kittens that are 4 weeks old now. Today we noticed that her underside is a little swollen and looks bruised and there is some dried blood. Is this normal? Should I take her to the vet asap? Is there anything I can do to help her discomfort? She is still laying down to feed them, but looks uncomfortable when she does.

She sounds raw and chapped.
This happens from 6 kittens who now have their baby teeth!

You can apply coconut oil for relief. It's non-toxic and very soothing. Olive oil or bag balm work well too. Apply repeatedly throughout the day. These are also non-toxic to the kittens.

Do see the vet for antibiotics if you think she has infection.

You can see some of the dried up blood and what looks like bruising in the lower area

Yes, oil should help. Have you applied any yet?

You'll want to begin offering the kittens slushy wet food. They should be ready to wean soon and that will help mom out. They'll still nurse, but less once they eat soft food.

Let's see some photos of the kittens too!

Do you plan to spay mom after this litter?

Yes I definitely will be getting her spayed! She was a stray (there are a lot around here) I wanted to take her in before winter since she's a beautiful calico, and then soon after that I learned she was pregnant!

Bless you for taking care of the precious kitty family. The coconut oil will be such a soothing relief. Those little kitten claws and teeth are razor sharp...What mom's have to go through.

Speaking of claws ... you can trim the kitten's claws. Just the very tips - no more than that. Just get the sharp points off. That will help mom's belly too. Continue trimming each week! :)
