Hi, Our oldest cat Missy has been acting strange the last few days. Today I was eating a sandwhich and Missy jumped up on me and tried to take it right out of my hands as if to tell me I am hungry!!!!!!!. So I took some of the ham out and gave it to her. I called Yvonne who was on her way home from work and she got some soft catfood that she said Missy used to like. Its the cheap wal-mart stuff, but at least she is eating it. She just ate one whole packet of the stuff herself.
We have been feeding the nutro indoor stuff for a while now and she seemed to be doing ok with it till the last couple days. Missy is about 18 years old and she was into the vet a couple months ago because she had a cold, is the best way to discribe it, The vet asked how old she was and I said 18 and she looked at me like I was kidding, and I said again the Yvonne says she is 18, So the vet gave her a real good check up and said she is in great shape for her age but her teeth are starting to show her age.
Could it be she has a tooth that is hurting that made her stop eating the dry food? I want to do what I can for her but with all the other cats its real hard to just feed her stuff she will eat without all the others moving in and running her off. Tonite I had to give the others some soft food in the back room to distract them and then gave Missy her food in my bedroom so she could be alone to eat it. The other day I tried to give her some of the more expencive soft food but she turned up her nose at it. But she ate the cheap stuff all up just now so I guess the cheap stuff is better than her starving herself. She loves canned tuna also but I hear its not good to feed cats that stuff all the time. I give them all some tuna once in a while as a treat but not to often.
Missy seems fine other wise, she has been chasing Angel and the dog around and acting like a young kitty still. As far as I know she still has most if not all of her teeth yet.
It looks to me that she is hungry and wants to eat but for some reason can't or won't eat the dry nutro right now.
What do you all think? Should I have her mouth/teeth looked at by the vet to see if she has a sore one or something?
Also Rusty just hogs down soft food whenever I get it, so maybe he also don't like the nutro all that well and eats it because he has to. Maybe that is why he isn't as big as I thought he was going to get. He is related to Panther who is about 18lbs but Rusty has a huge long tail and great big feet compaired to Panther but just didn't get as big, but maybe he is still growing yet.
What kind of food do some of you feed your older cats that can't or won't eat the dry stuff?
