meowing after neuter

I hope this is being posted in the correct sub forum. So beginning of dec I adopted a stray cat that came to our house. He just got neuter today at 8am at no nonsense neutering. I brought him home and he's just been meowing loudly ever since. They said they gave him a long lasting pain medicine before he came home with us so they didn't give us any other pain killers. Is the loud meowing cus he's in pain or just because he wants out of the carrier? They told us to leave him in it until tomorrow morning. I feel so horrible hearing him meow.   I did let him out for a brief minute and he did stop meowing but he was wobbly and seemed confused, so i'm inclined to leave him in the carrier until he's better. What are your thoughts?

He's probably just disoriented. You can let him out if he's somewhere he can't jump up and hurt himself. I would give him access to water and a litter box for sure.
