Mabel seems to be following me around a lot and meowing like she wants something but I can't figure it out. She has toys, food, water and her litter box is clean so I'm not sure what she wants. I thought maybe she wanted attention so I tried to sit and pet her but she just walked away.

How do I figure out what she wants? Or do cats just act like they want something for no reason? I've never had a cat that does this so it's all new to us. We've had her for all few weeks now and we are still figuring her out.

If she's finishing her food, doesn't seem hungry, is using the litter box properly, and isn't in pain, then she might just be a chatty kitty. :)

Some cats are more vocal than others, yes. I agree with @pusheen   there.

Do you answer back when she meows? It's kinda fun to do and you can have very long dialogues with a chatty cat

I do exactly this with Asha. She's always 'talking' to me - it would be rude not to reply :lol3: ;)

Asha also follows me around the house. I'm not even allowed to go to the loo without an escorts  Sometimes she wants something, but more often it's simply that she wants to be near me. I guess she thinks I need supervision!

I inherited a kitty from a neighbor who passed away that meows like heck every time I open the refrigerator door or pantry. She has to sniff everything that comes out of both before she stops meowing, only if it's not interesting to her if it is the meowing gets worse.

I cant go to the bathroom without 2 kids and a cat in there. It's just normal these days.

Sometimes, I talk back to Mabel. I will say "oh yeah" or "then what happened?" I do it with my 1 year old son too.

Little iita is very vocal, usually she wants something, treats, food, flowing water, to get outside or just to other side of the door.

Her meowing is catching to others too, so when I used to have just one vocal cat, now I have three and fourth is bit unsure if he wants to try to be vocal or not, so he just makes very subtle small noise that is impossible to describe, bit like cat chatter but only one sound instead of series as in chatter.

Little iita on other hand, goes on, meee, meee, mee, meeeeeeeeeeeeeee, MEEEEEEE, meee, and so on, she is trying always bit of variation if she could get more piercing and more effective sound out of her. Oh and she is loud, for tiny size of her she really has strong voice.

They all have copied also her following behavior too, so when ever I walk there is four tails on my tail, three of them attempt to run under my foot but Little iita does not do that, she runs bit forward, throws herself on her side or on her back and enjoys when others do the hard work and I struggle with my balance.

Second most vocal is Tiger that is brother of Little iita, he usually runs on door and reaches he handle, then he uses he right paw to tap the door and makes noises, any door is fine, even door that is taken off from hinges, when there is door, there must be other side and door must be opened.

They are cute and sweet for sure, but sometimes amount of noise can be bit taxing, luckily their attention span is still shorter than mine and they give up in few minutes when I sit down :D

I just admire their ability to read my body language which I don't know I have to that extent, if I plan to get out from the door they manage to figure that out and run to door where they start a concert, serious skills those cats have.

Some cats are very talkative (my two cats who passed away) I remember how vocal they were, they sure knows what they want. In the morning they woke me with their nagging talking like saying "time to wake up " lol so I woke up and gave them some loving and of course their food. After eating, they will play together "catch me if you can" game while Im doing the bed, when bed is ready, they'll jump there and would wash each other. They woke me up so they can have my bed alone lol they're so funny and so cute together. I love talking to my babies, it's been  16 years they were with me and when they were gone I miss so much their talking...I wish and pray to God I want to hear them one more time...I would be very happy.

Macha is also talkative and she knows too what she wants. I am so impressed at young age Macha talks a lot, she would response with high pitch voice, mostly when she can't find her toys. We are all cat lovers and talking to our beloved  cats are just very normal.
