Hi Everybody (or, as we say way down here in the Deep South, "Hey, Y'all!)!
I'm so excited to be joining the Forum! I am an ardent, life-long cat lover--according to my mom, one of my first words was "memow!" Our neighbors' cat liked to "visit" me in my playpen whenever my parents took me outside on warm, sunny days, and he evidently just stole my heart! "Miss Purrypot" is the name of a character in one of my favorite early-childhood books, "No Kiss For Mother." She's a lady cat schoolteacher, and one of her kitten pupils is the book's main character, "Piper Paw." Piper's mother is "Velvet Paw," whom Piper won't kiss at all. . .at least at the beginning of the story! (I won't spoil the ending for those of you who want to check it out!)
My precious kitties are Omar Khayyam (or OK, or O, to his friends and loved ones!) and Clementine Sushi (aka Darling Clementine). O is a robust 12 year old Tuxedo boy, and Clem is a dainty 4 year old Blue Point Siamese girl. As their cat mama I'm just a little bit biased, but they are purrfectly wonderful! They live exclusively indoors, where their human family members spoil them rotten!
I was recently diagnosed with a recurrent bone tumor, a very rare cancer with which I was originally diagnosed almost-exactly 11 years ago. Now that I am no longer able to work and am at home virtually all of the time (with the exception of my visits to the hospital and cancer center), O and Clem are my saving grace. They sit with me when I'm tired, purr for me when I'm in pain, and follow me everywhere, as if to make sure that I'm allright. On one occasion when I was too weak and depleated to leave the bathroom following a round of chemotherapy, both kitties lay on the floor with me for several hours. A friend refers to them as my personal FRNs, or "Feline Registered Nurses." They are definitely powerful medicine for the soul and spirit and are one reason that I'm fighting my illness just as hard as I can.
I look forward to meeting my fellow cat lovers! Meow, Y'all!
