Menthol?

Menthol comes from eucalyptus. And one of my cats roll and rub all over me when I use gold bond

I recently rubbed Bengay on my right shoulder and put my sweater back on. Interestingly enough, one of my cats began to become more than interested in the sweater, much more so than with catnip. I moved the sweater to a chair and his brother did the same than to the point that he took the sweater completely off the chair and went somewhat over the top with it. I finally put the sweater in a drawer. I read that menthol is only toxic if they ingest it. I am not sure why someone would go forward and actually apply it to their pet without investigating first.
