I've been doing a bit of trial and error with Skye---she has arthritis and I had done a 4 day trial with prednisone (this was all supervised by my vet btw), and found it sort of helped. I waited 24 hrs and then put her back on medicam----four to six drop once a day (below what the vet had suggested). I believe it is the lowest dose possible (.05 or .5??). Within a half hour, she was relaxed and able to poop again (she was having trouble posturing due to the soreness in her hips).
Now, prior to this, Skye had begun to drink more water--not tons, but I saw her at the water dish. I have been giving them both Fancy Feast as they like it and at this point, they get to eat what they like. The vet receptionist said it is very high in sodium, so that makes me think it's making her more thirsty--that and dry food. Both my cats were never big on drinking water so I do notice it more when they DO drink. Since being on medicam (we are on day 3) she is drinking more water--again, when I mean more, I mean she is at the water dish 2 extra times more. Little sips and she's fine. Everything else is normal.
I know medicam can cause kidney issues so I will be taking her and Bandit to the vet Tuesday--Bandit's eye with Horner's Syndrome is very weepy so I want to make sure there isn't anything in there and I figured Skye needs some blood work run to make sure kidneys are functioning properly and pancreatic levels are fine.
But just wanted to see if anyone else experienced their cats wanting a bit more of a sip of water after their medicam?
Mom's kitty was on medicam--her fluffy persian, but her kitty was a big water drinker (and so classy she belched after really loudly ).
