Can anyone tell me about it? I work as a receptionist right now, and I'm just getting by. I may need a complete job change, or at least I could expand my skills. Since I've started treating my depression, maybe I could manage to take some classes, even if it's just online.

Although I have no personal experience with medical coding it's my understanding you can take on-line courses to become certified or get a two year Associate Degree which is not required but helpful in securing a job. I think you should go for it, good luck! :goodluck:

I took a 9 month long medical coding and billing course. I have been doing medical billing for 5 1/2 years now. The pay isn't great but I can support myself on the pay if I am careful. I did get the CPC certification shortly before I finished, it's a 5 1/2 hour proctored test. I let the certification go after two years because I am doing billing rather than coding. There is a continuing education requirement. The education is available online but the cost is geared to companies paying for it rather than individual.
