Mated?

Hi..I spent a little time looking at the forums before I signed up and you all seem to k ow your stuff So here's my issue. My brother and sis in law took in a young female cat a couple of weeks ago. They asked me to take care of her while they are on vacation for 10 days. I know NOTHING about cats. She was a stray and they took her to the vet and got shots started before they left and have plans on spaying her when they return. She is very sweet and loveable. Yesterday she got out while I was leaving for work and I wasn't able to catch her so she was out for about 4 hours. She was hiding in the bushes when I got back and she came right to me and I took her in. She flopped on the floor and seemed very tired. She wouldn't let me touch her the rest if the night. Today when I got home she was outside again. She pushed through a window screen. Took me awhile to get her in this time. Same thing ..tired and doesn't want me to pet her. She also keeps licking her bottom. I am wondering if it is possible she has mated? Her bottom looks normal..not swollen or anything. Tommorrow she will be locked in the bathroom before I leave

Yes, probably. There are plenty of willing tomcats just waiting for pretty young girls to escape the house .

If they have her spayed within the next couple weeks it won't be any more dangerous than a regular spay.

Thank you. Wouldn't there be some physical signs around her bottom? Lol..sorry. I just know next to nothing about cat mating. Better call them and tell them to get that appointment made!! Another silly question..can they get pregnant the first time they mate. She is pretty young..I think they said about a year old.

Yes, they can get pregnant on the first mating. It sounds like she is in heat if she broke through a screen. I agree that spaying as soon as possible will eliminate all concerns.

Hmmm..well asap then. I think I am actually going to ask them if I can keep her. She is such a little lovebug!

I'm puzzled as to why they got her just before a vacation?

They got her from someone who easygoing to take her to the shelter..they already have 2 cats so I think she should just stay with me!! Lol

I hope so..I think so because they only took her to keep her from going to the shelter

It will be a learning experience for me. I have dogs. I've never had a cat before
