Hi, I'm new to this site. I am a fairly new registered breeder. I bred my male & female for the first time a year ago Nov which was a success. Since then i've used him as a stud and he hasn't produced any successful litters. I was hoping it wasn't him but since it has been a year I recently bred him with my female again hoping there would be success again but her ultrasound was negative. It seems obvious that he is the problem. There is a reproductive specialist that can do a semen analysis but I just wonder even with that if he's proven sterile are there options for treatment? I appreciate any advice, Thank you

Hello there, and welcome!

I'm guessing you'd get more responses in the Showing and Ethical Breeding forum - if it is more appropriate for that forum, the mods will move it (no need to re-post it there).

I've only once ever had a purebred, and it was a Siamese that was spayed after her first heat. So, definitely no experience in breeding :) I'm sure someone will be along shortly though that does have experience. Although, not sure a whole lot have experience in fertility treatments. That sounds very specialized.

Welcome to TCS!

Yes, I know that hormone therapies can be applied in some cases, depending on the cause of infertility. Maybe you can talk to the fertility expert over the phone and ask for their opinion prior to taking the cat in? Or at least prior to running tests? The expert may be able to tell you what the odds are that this will be treatable.

Have you talked to the breeder who mentors you and who sold you the cat? I know it sounds silly but some forms of partial infertility can be hereditary. She/he may be able to tell you if they've seen something similar in other cats of the same line.

I will add, some extra vitamines, especially the vitamine E - cant hurt and may help.

I know females not going into heat, occasionally are helped by extra E-vitamine.   The only real difficulty is to find a good E-vitamine source.  For example, coldpressed rapeseed or olive oil, does contain quite some E-vitamine, and omega acids too.  But not all cats are fond of oil.  While others are quite fond of it.

Rapeseed oil (Canola) is the more neutral in flavor.  So, coldpressed organic rapeseed / canola oil would be my choice.

But not too much - such oil can also be used against constipation in a little bigger dosage.

If he doesnt like it in the food, perhaps just sneakingly smear him with it, so he will wash off himself?

Thank you Anne. The Fertility specialist should be calling me today. I'm hoping hormone treatments is an option because I know the process to do a semen collection on cats is probably quite expensive, but time will tell with what he recommends

Unfortunately the breeder I bought him from stopped breeding & is quite hard to hear back from. Not a good mentor at all unfortunetly

Thank you StefanZ, I will ask about that. The only concern I have is that he is on a grain free diet otherwise he has loose stools, so I would have to be extremely careful when giving that. I so appreciate your help, Thank you

I really don't know anything about fertility issues in cats but I DO know that I absolutely adore Sphynxes. They are gorgeous. Any pics?

I hope that the specialist is able to help you
