Hello, fellow members of TCS! Nice to meet you.
I have a bit of trouble with my cats and I wasn't able to find any relevant way of solving this problem so far so I thought I'd try here too.
First of all, I have a white persian female cat, who had some difficulties while growing up which left her pretty much traumatized... now she's very scared of both people and other animals... anddd everything in general for that matter. I've had her for a while now, around... 4-5 months I think. We're getting along very well, and she's gotten over some of her fears (right when I went to visit her the first time she'd hide wherever she could. her previous owner told me she hid whenever there were strangers around, and that, all in all, she's not a very affectionate cat; now she's really ok when someone comes to visit. she does hide, but not somewhere we can't reach or see her. she usually stays next to the bed where she can see us).
The problem is, she's in heat and I'd like her to make some kittens (we already have a few people that want her babies too, so that's not a problem. we'll take care of at least one of them, too), reason why I brought over a russian blue male cat... well... he's really shy and passive... don't know how else to describe him. He's not doing anything other than meow back to her and that's about it. It's true that she's pretty agressive... she hisses and growls and all that, she even chased him a bit a few days ago(she wasn't in heat back then), but the thing is, they never fought.
However, now's she doesn't mind anything happening to her but he's still to scared to make any move.
He did once sort of climb on her (yesterday, when her heat cycle started; she wasn't as tolerant yesterday, so she made a fuss about it (she hissed and jumped back out of fear).
They know each other for about a month now, but I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to make him take the initiative... I feel like he is half ignoring her or is just way too afraid to be able to do anything... that's why, is there anything we can do to make him not afraid and be willing to do his job?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope someone can share his/her experience with us.
