Hi all. I'm Major Grey Djin's self appointed (and it
seems appreciated? by him!) guardian. A life long
cat owner (since age of 3 I've had cat/cats, or
to parent's dismay dragged home strays...LOL!) I
now have 3 in residence.
2 older senior catsm that are beloved - my wonderful Diablo - male, black
Siamese / burmese mix with WONDERFUL purrsonality
(he walks on leash for me!) and sadly a bad
bit of arthritis, Queen Sheba - total
purrball, sadly now fading slowly as her health slips,
and the new cat on the block - a black smoke manx look alike
DSH (she has cute stub of tail!)called Princess Lexi.
A total terror - she was abandoned
by the family when they moved I believe - or
possibly dumped by owners
who didn't know how to care for her.
I've spent the last
year watching her fill out, grow up, and become
more relaxed and less inclined to bite my hands,
and better able enjoy petting and affection.
Major Grey Djin, the grey male tom that has hung
round the hood for going on 4/5 years and has been
cared for /fed on an off by local cat lady neighbor
is my new "project". I determined that as this winter
was predicted to be very harsh, I would break down
and try to give him warmer shelter and food.
Oh, and I do intend to keep him as outdoors -
since my beloved senior male could not
handle another male in the house. It would
not be fair to either of the two guys...
But the most important decision I made
was to get him FIXED!
But to do that, I've gotta get him trapped.
Currently I'm awaiting the green sheet from
my local shelter for low cost spay neuter...
Once that is in hand we will begin to try to trap..
So far, we've progressed to feeding in the yard,
2xtimes a day and also coming when he hears
the can tapped for food! Working on getting
friendly now. He meows at me when I feed him,
sometimes we have long conversations..
Stay tuned on the board, as I update on
his/our mutual progress!!
Hum.. let's see...
I've "rescued" several cats over
the years - either fostering temporarily, transporting
or in the case of a diabetic stray, re-homing with help.
However, up till Lexi came along, I had never gotten
"stuck" with one of my cats. Lexi I got attached to,
and worried about due to the biting / play agression
she has... I figured with me, she'd get a fair chance at
living a good life, and would be okay. So she stayed.
She gets along okay with my senior male/female. The
male bit her once, and once only, and after that she
knew to show him submission. She's quite bossy tho,
and I do watch her closely with my two older babies...
And if I go away for any length of time... she stays
separate in the basement - I can't chance shutting them
up together and her attacking the old ones from sheer
boredom...
Anyway, 'nuff about the cats! I am an avid kayaker,
a good reader (love fantasy and Jim Butcher is
too cool!), I bead on occassion and love to be outdoors. I try
to garden, but that is when my brown thumb doesn't
get in the way, LOL.
Hum, that's all for now...
ciao!
