Hello everyone I'm new to the site, Anyway i got my new baby from RTA here in Abilene TX. We named him Ozzy well they have down that he is a DLH Tabby 1 1/2 old, But from what i have seen on other sites he looks like a Maine Coon, could anyone tell me what they think. He is a very big boy! He comes to my 4 year old's shoulders, Will he get bigger?

Doesn't look like a MCC to me... Maine coon's ears should be bigger, usually with lynx hair on the tip. The muzzle is "square", so is the head shape.

Here is a picture of a typical MCC

Oh, as long you dont think he is a purebred Maine Coon or something, you can surely say he looks somewhat like a Maine Coon...   :)

That look alike he seems to have.   He is besides a beauty!

Yes, he may get bigger still.  They male cats get fully mature at about 2 years.  And as longhaired he may be a little slower, so count 2,5 year for fully grown.

Congrats to your new, furry, household member!

Good luck!

ps  Welcome to the TCS site and Forums!

I find there are a LOT of domestic longhairs who look like Maine Coons. Which isn't really surprising since the Maine Coon is a very natural breed. The best cat I ever had was a Maine Coon lookalike. I love big brown tabby longhairs.

There are two common "looks" to Maine Coons. Some Maine Coons tend to have more of a "sweet"/refined look to the face versus the more "wild" face like the cat in your photo. It seems the type of Maine Coon with more the wild look are seen in TICA and in CFA you have more "sweet" look.

This is more the "sweet" type MC:

I compared Maine Coon standard in CFA and TICA, and I couldn't find significant difference between the two. Maybe CFA judges are more prone to "sweeter looks"? But it's not mentioned in their standard.

TICA standard

CFA standard

Also the Best of Breed picture CFA put on the Maine Coon breed profile page doesn't look sweet to me at all...

PS: Among the 3 forest cats, I think the sweetest looking one is Siberian. Of course, being owned by a Siberian, I'm biased :D

Yes I think it is partly due to preference by TICA and CFA judges as well as different breeder preferences... I have seen both types at TICA shows (and intermediate looks) but I've never seen the really wild looking MCs at the CFA shows I've been to. I've also heard the TICA look called wild or feral by other people.

Here is an article that also talks about this and about the difference in the TCA vs CFA standards:
