Hi! I have another question about L-Lysine. I have a friend who has a foster kitten who's extremely ill. Here's what she IM'd to me earlier today:
She wants to try L-Lysine to help his immune system, and we were wondering, what's a good dose for a 1lb kitten? We have an adoption partner who puts cats in the adoption center at work, and she's a well-meaning lady, but she's COMPLETELY overwhelmed right now, and put a VERY sick kitten in the center. It's supposed to be 10wks old min to be in the center; our vet said he's only about 7-8wks. Weighs just a pound, half what he should at that age. Emaciated to the point of muscle wasting, coccidia, URI, body-wide fungal infection, tapeworms, you name it.
He was improving after antibiotics/steroids/antiparasitics but the coccidia is on the rebound and he's very sick again.
Anyway, I pulled him from the adoption center when I saw him because [...] he had horrible bloody diarhea and was really lethargic.
He pretty much s*** nothing but blood and mucous for the first couple of days.
He's just so depleted. He has a secondary fungal infection from just being so damned unhealthy, and his hair is falling out everywhere because of it. He is on a vitamin/cal booster, getting KMR with a high-quality canned, etc. but gosh he' a mess.
