Dear Lilly,
I remember two years ago today how shy and scared you were in a strange new place with new people and things. Before us your life had been a whirlwind of terror living as a stray. We don't know much about your past, but we do know your sad look in that Petsmart cage won your mommy over and she just had to have you. Daddy wasn't willing at first, but with time he too began to see your sweetness and let us take you home.
Over time you learned it was ok not to hide under the bed and you began to make our bedroom your new home. you slept with mommy every night next to her pillow and took the name "Lillow Pillow" with grace and dignity. We'll never forget the day 5 months after living with us when you felt safe enough to venture out of the bedroom. Leaps and bounds of trust were broken that day and we knew you loved us then.
Ebony although she may not show it misses you I am sure. You took her torturing you so well. She loved to pretend to give you kisses and then smack you right in the head.
I know you probably didn't find it very funny, but you never once hit back, hiss, or bit your younger sister. You were always so even tempered.
These past 3 weeks have been the hardest on your mommy. What she thought was a routine teeth checkup turned out to be the worst news she could get. Cancer. Advanced Cancer that couldn't be healed. All we wanted to do was to make you better. We tried our hardest. We fought the fight. YOU fought the hardest. But the cancer won in the end.
We hope you understand that ending your pain was the best thing to do. We hope you jumped over that RB and made lots of friends right away. Mommy will miss your pacing the couch and continually giving headbutts to anyone in your path. She'll miss not having you next to her pillow tonight. But she knows you are in a better place. We'll be hanging up the picture your grand-mommy painted of you very soon so we'll always remember the special place you had in our hearts.
Rest well my sweet Lilly girl. We love you so much.
