G'day all, Several years ago a stray smokey Persian showed up in our back yard. He had all four feet declawed and he was starving. He had been shaved and they previous owner had gone so far as to remove the id chip from his neck. He was probably attracted to our yard because of our pond. He was getting a drink when my wife noticed him. He got frightened and ran into the open garage so Anne put some food and water down for him in the garage. Well, when I got home and saw him sitting on my chair in the garage there was no question. He stayed for the next 9 years.
Three years ago I have a couple of strokes. The last one was bad and I spent a couple of weeks in the hospital. Joe was frantic that I was not home for that period. When the Dr released me he said that they could not put me in the rehab hospital. He said even in my condition I was stronger than any two of their therapists and he didn't want someone getting broken. So I went home.
For the next two months Joe never left my side. He spent all his time on the bed watching over me and monitoring me when I got up. My wife had to put a littler box and food in the bedroom for him. A year ago when his job of nursing me back to health were over, he laid down and died. I miss the little guy every day. I hope to see him again some day.
