We only had them for two weeks but the 3 kitties I adopted from the shelter just one, Sophie survives. Last Thursday Titus an older siamese died. He had thrown up the day before but seemed otherwise healthy...he was dead the next day.
Last night the 12 wk old Dublin, died even quicker. He had been on antibiotics for Feline Influenzia and continued to have a stuffy nose but seemed to be eating fine. My husband was playing with him at noon yesterday and when I came home at 6pm he was completely lethargic. I took him to the emergency vet, he was dehydrated, hypoglycemic, and very cold, 94 degrees. It's possible he contracted coccida but he didn't show any symptoms on Monday when I saw him using the litter box. He died while they were trying to treat him. It's been really awful.
Sophie has been going nuts without her buddy Dublin since yesterday. Today she went in for bloodwork to rule out any common problems, she appears healthy. They still need a stool sample but she has firm stools as well and all the cats had recently been dewormed and put on preventative flea control. They all had their shots and were fixed before leaving the shelter...I'm hoping for Sophie's sake it was just very bad luck for the other two kitties and she remains healthy. I will have to get her a companion again as she is very lonely but I may try to get a kitty from somewhere other than the SPCA, I can't take another sick baby right now.
