A friend of mine is looking for a cat. His girlfriend just moved out with their young son and his cat, Jasper, is taking it very hard. On top of that, about 6 months ago, their other cat escaped during a home invasion (they've since moved) and was never found. So, the poor little guy has lost his two best friends. My friend has to work full time to swing the rent and bills on his own, so Jasper is alone much more than he was before. Jasper has even started to lose weight from the stress!
He is looking for an adult female because Jasper has responded better to females than males in the past (he's fostered a few cats over the years). He would like her to already be spayed and up to date on shots because he can't afford the first year kitten stuff right now and strongly feels it is irresponsible to have an unaltered cat around. He is not broke and can do regular vet care and could find the funds in an emergency situation, but for now he is pooling his resources into settling into his apartment and getting it ready for his son's visitations (a lot of the furniture and such went with the gf and baby).
I would like to help him find just the right cat. Jasper deserves a friend and my friend is a very good cat owner. He loves Jasper and is really worried about how much time he spends alone. The cat would be indoor only, like Jasper. He would consider an already declawed cat who needs a good, safe home, but Jasper isn't declawed (though he's not aggressive at all and was always the one getting picked on by the fosters, so it could work).
Also, don't worry about the presence of the young child. The baby is almost 2 and has already been taught how he allowed to touch the kitties and is very gentle and lovey with Jasper. Also, the baby is NEVER left unsupervised around the cat (for the cat's protection as well as his) and there are cat trees and high spots for Jasper all around the apartment.
I know this guy well and he would make a great home for a cat who needs one. Plus, I'd really like to help Jasper, who is so lonely. Does anyone here know of a cat in the GTA that would fit the bill? We would be willing to go anywhere around Toronto or north up to Barrie.
