What is this?
Those things on the top, the little barbs that are hanging down. What is that?

That's the issue another forum is having too! We just can't find an answer. And yes, she was very confused and slightly mad at me after I let her go. I noticed it though when I was brushing her teeth, and I know I've seen the before but all of a sudden I was just really curious as to what it was.
LOL! Poor kitty is probably wondering why you're grabbing at his lip!
My cats have these and they are normal. It's just part of the way their mouth is, but I really don't know why they have them. I don't even know if they have a name. I tried to look it up, but even my mad researching skills couldn't find anything.
I do have a feline anatomy book, so I will check there when I get home.

Thank you! for the help and the welcome

Good for you for brushing her teeth!
And welcome to TCS!
I'd be interested, too. I Googled everything I could think of and didn't come up with an answer. Mogli doesn't have them, though he also has a fairly smooth tongue, and I'm 99% sure Jamie didn't, either. I used to check his lips and mouth regularly because he was prone to rodent ulcers.goholistic did you ever find the answer?
That could be it.
It may have something to do with holding prey in the mouth. Maybe they are designed for sensing mouse tail movements or something. Just a thought.
:c well that stinks. I think if I remember I'll ask my vet when Zoe goes in in two weeks for her shot(s?)
Oh, I should have said that Caesar's are much more pronounced than my other two cats. I looked at Boo's, and his were more smooth. But Caesar does have these barbs like your cat.
I didn't have much luck with the anatomy book. I tried to Google some of the technical terms in the book, but I never really found an answer.
