Litter tracking EVERYWHERE- help!!!

I've recently had a new problem with my 18 year old cat tracking litter EVERYWHERE. it's insanity. I've used Worlds Best Cat Litter for years and never had a problem until recently. I've tried a bunch:

Pine - he won't use
Swheat Scoop - worst tracking ever
Walnut based - tracks viciously
Fresh Step - gets stuck in his paws and tracks further from box
Crystals - tracked still but in larger chunks

I have three rugs ( the outdoor kind) and two litter matts around the box anf "following" him out of that room and it "wipes" a good amount of it off but it's still all over the house. He isn't kicking and making a mess, it's more tracking all over the house! Any thoughts on what to try next? I'm loosing my mind over it

That's a problem we're probably all looking for a way to solve! Does putting less litter in the box help? I've had one of these mats for a while now and still love it: Blackhole Cat Litter Mat

If your cat were younger you could use a high-sided storage box or concrete mixing tub as a litter box, but they're not at all suitable for young kittens or elderly cats.
