okay i just went to the store and bought two new litter boxes. making it a total of three in my apartment. where should i put them? and how do i make sure that my older cat does not use the one i brought in for the new cat.
You should put them in an area where there is almost NO noise. Somewhere relaxing, and in a tight area. Maybe in your cats' room. Next to a toilet is a great one, and maybe in a cleaned out closet, as well. It would serve as a little kitty bathroom. Hope this helps.
You need to put the litter pans where there is privacy but also easy escape because it sounds like you might have litter pan ambush. So you do not want the pans lined up together, they should be spaced apart, and they shouldn't be in an enclosed area at all. The cats feel very vulnerable and they want to be able to flee if they sense danger.
