My boy had an ultrasound in June and pancreatic swelling diagnosed pancreatitus. Recently I found a lump near his back leg in his belly. The vet did a needle biopsy and said it was a benign lipoma. I have been wondering why it didn't show up on the ultrasound in June? Aren't lipomas slow growing? Anyone know ?

Ultrasounds are generally done in quite specific areas, rather than general ones. That might be it. They do usually grow slowly, but the odd one can be faster.
