If you're getting it professionally framed, you should also think about long term. Will this be a single framed photo on a wall or in the future will you be grouping various pictures? Since if you group it in the future, a coloured mat may not go with other non-coloured ones.

When it comes to photographs, I'm very simple....always a white mat (since I may group it inthe future) and I place same coloured frames together. I want the eye to go straight for the picture and not be distracted by the outer elements.

It all depends on your own style.

Great job Stoli..Bella got honorable mention once in a newspaper contest and she didn't get anything and Sophia got most beautiful and she got cat food HA HA...looks like you got the better deal bud!!!
