Just got home from the vet and we have good news. The vet is very happy with the progress she is making and is quietly confident that she won't have to lose her tail. There seems to be better blood flow and the injury doesn't look as bad as it first seemed. She's not completely out of the woods yet but it's looking good. I even noticed that her tail wasn't dragging on the ground when the bandage was removed. So relieved!
