Hi,

I have a basement room that I rent out and the homeowners own a cat they keep in the space between the upstairs door and my door (basically the stairway and a little extra room near the washers.) Unless lights are turned on, that space is dark all day and night. I have been turning the lights on for the cat when I am here not because I think she cant' see (no litter box issues, etc.) but because I don't want her to grow a third eye ! I can't see how being in the dark all the time in humane, but wanted to make sure I wasn't over-reacting???

I don't think it is a good idea for the cat to be in the dark all of the time. I know cats can see in the dark, but it doesn't seem appropriate.

That doesn't seem like a happy life. Poor kitty. I don't think you're overreacting at all. Would you be opposed to the cat coming into your house?

I feel sorry for this poor cat.  I am glad you are leaving in lights on.

My litter boxes are in my basement but it has a window so there is natural light.  I would still not confine my cats down there though.
