Letting Cat Enjoy Outdoors Safely?

My cat has shown a lot of interest in being outside as of late-especially because the weather has been nice and because she can see me from the window doing yard work.

I’m not allowed to let my cat roam freely in the neighborhood ( not only that but it would be unsafe considering the roads ) but I am considering leash training her to be able to be outside even for a bit.

I’ve managed to put a leash and harness on her before, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. She doesn’t seem to completely love it but she seems to tolerate it and her curiosity for outside seems to trump over the initial discomfort of having a harness.

Has anyone of you successfully leash trained a cat? If so, could you please advise me on any other training tips for it?

What are some other ways you let your cat enjoy the outdoors? I’ve seen cat cages outside. I’ve seen some people use baskets on bikes. But I wish to hear some personal experiences!

Another idea would be building an enclosed patio, or catio, that gives your cat unleashed access to an enclosed space. We have a few members with different variations of catios and you can check out these threads for ideas,
