I was brainlessly lurking on the internet and came across a fun little "Reddits post" compilation. One that caught my eye I thought would be a fun thread to start here.

So post your "Let that sink in" fun/useless/weird/are you serious? facts.

All banana plants (which are neither trees nor bushes) are tissue propagated from the same plant, making them all clones. This is easier than propagating from seed, but it means that they're very susceptible to diseases.

Before 1950 the most commonly available type of banana was the Gros Michel, but a disease wiped out the commercial plants so now the most commonly available variety is Cavendish. It's likely that during our lifetimes (depending how old you are), a disease will wipe out the Cavendish too, and we'll have to get used to a different variety.
