About ten days ago her bag of kibble ran out. It was the third bag of the same kind she's been eating just fine for more than six months.
I had another bag on hand, one that I had ordered off the internet, but she wasn't interested. I thought perhaps it was stale or the recipe had changed or something, so I picked up another bag of the same kind from Pet Smart. Same issue -- she wasn't interested.
I could get her to eat a few bites at a time if I stood with her at the bowl and gently pet her while she ate. If I put a small amount of her regular kibble in a bowl and run warm water on it, she'll drink all the water and eat a few bites. I've also tried another brand of kibble, and she will eat a few bits at a time but it's not enough.
She's only ever eaten dry food, but I tried a quality brand of canned but she wanted nothing to do with it. I've tried tuna water with a bit of tuna in it, but no go. I tried bits of turkey and chicken, no go. She has never wanted people food so that's not new. There have been no changes to our routine or her environment, at least not that I can perceive.
She had a complete checkup in January, but I'll be taking her into a vet this week. In the meantime I would love some ideas on how to get her more interested in eating. She's never been a big eater, and this change seemed to start just because the bag of food she was eating ran out. As if all of a sudden nothing tastes right to her.
In all other ways she seems fine. Her routine is normal, her little box use is normal, sleeping is normal, and she's still very playful and sweet.
Help?
