Hello all, I am new here. I just rescued a kitten. Long story but I happened to be checking the mail when I saw a boy and his mom yelling at each other. She told him to get rid of the kitten and she didn't care how he did it. Long story short he proceeded to over-handed throw the kitten over a 6 foot fence into a Walmart parking lot while the mother just watched. I was furious and made him go fetch it. She was covered in feces and severely malnourished. She was injured a bit on her face in the fall. She has one infected eye, (don't know if it is related to the fall or not), and her belly is pretty swollen. By looking at her teeth it looks like she is about 7 weeks old. I think she is very underweight. I have now had her for about a week and a half. When I first got her I bought her some kitten food and she didn't eat much. I added bottle feeding her kitten milk and she seemed to put on some weight however she had terrible diarrhea from it. Twenty four hours after I took her off of the kitten milk the diarrhea all but went away. I have been taking extremely good care of her as best I can. Anyway, here's the deal. Her eye is really infected, so much so that it oozes a yellowish liquid throughout the day. It is swollen shut most of the time. Her belly is very round and hard. We have no other pets and so had to go buy litter boxes and food and dishes and such to start. Also, I did some research online to find a good antibiotic eye medicine for her and I went to the store and bought it for $20. At this point I have spent a lot of money on her that I really didn't have. If I had more money I wouldn't mind but right now I am unemployed. I would love to keep her as I have fallen in love with her but I don't want to neglect her due to the fact that I can't afford to take her to the vet. I did go to the vet office to get an estimate on how much it would cost to take care of all of her issues. Just for shots, fecal tests and kitten package it is $250! Plus they looked at her eye and said that any treatment for that would be an extra $45 plus the cost of medication. Then the de-worming, spay, and flea treatment later, bringing the total to close to $400 in the next few weeks. There is no way I can come up with that amount. I have approximately $100 to spare for her right now. My husband can come up with another $50 but not for about 4 weeks. I don't know what to do. I don't want to take her to the pound or humane society because with this infection she is not adoptable and they will just euthanize her. She seems very healthy otherwise and has a good enjoyment of life. She plays like a kitten and is very beautiful girl. She is a great cat and I want to keep her but I just don't know what to do. I feel like I did the right thing rescuing her from the people who were abusing her but I just don't know if I really helped her that much. Any suggestions for me? Should I just let her go to the humane society. I really don't want to, but is that the more responsible thing to do?
