Has anyone had the surgery for anal prolapse done and on a 5 month old kitten?
He has had intermittent prolapse since I’ve had him. Already neutered. He had bad diarrhoea the first week I had him then constipated. He now seems to poop fine but still prolapses pretty much everytime he poops or is stressed. It goes back in on its own after a little while but it’s pretty frequent. I feed him half wet half dry as anything else seems to ruin his poop consistency. Vet initially said keep an eye on it now recommending the surgery. I’m happy to do it I just am worried about him being so young and wanted to know other peoples experiences as I’ve read it doesn’t always work the first time. He is also a crazy ginger so I don’t know how I’m going to keep him still after. Thanks 🙂

surgery in a kitten so young makes me very very nervous. I'd get a second or third opinion. is this a vet that specializes in cats? if it isn't and there are any in the area i'd try going to them.
edit after reading about it does sound pretty serious. i'd still get a second opinion tho unless it's such an emergency that you have to do what you have to do. sorry your kitten is having such problems :( hopefully its just the simple prolapse surgery that is required.

Thank you. I am going to try the cat specialist vet as it feels like it could be a culmination of things that’s just aren’t being looked at properly. I even told them about the prolapse 2 months ago and they said “just see how it goes”. The only problem is the cat vet is the only one in the area so no openings for weeks! But he doesn’t seem like anything is really bothering him

Went to a new vet today and they said they would absolutely never do that surgery on a kitten. Suspect he’s just intolerant to his food which makes sense so will transition to another new one

Let us know how this progresses. You are wise to see what happens before jumping in to surgery. My cat vet will not do surgery on very young (aside from spaying/neutering) or very old cats because of the risks involved.
