Well she is still itchy and the homeopathic vet is booked out a few weeks before i can get in. I took her to her regular vet who is a cat only vet and open to alternative treatments. We wanted to forego the steroids for now. She is making little scabs along her neck back and base of tail. She has no fleas and is on flea preventative. We have done food trials and nothing gets better or worse. We did bloodwork and kidneys, liver and T4 are all perfect. We are thinking it is an atopic or inhaled allergy. I have her on a mix of wet and dry food. Right now the dry is orijen and wellness and the canned is all the higher quality stuff like wellness, Blue, TOTW, ect. I am tempted to do raw, but can't do that till I get back from vacation which is coming up in a few weeks. Plus I want to do more research into it to do it right.
So far to deal with her allergies, we have her on appropriate doses of fish oil and I am using a chlortab when she gets really bad. It makes her sleepy so she scratches less, but isn't getting to the root of the problem. Her eosinophils in her bloodwork were elevated slightly, which signals an allergic response or parasitic infection, which I doubt. I am thinking of giving her extra Vit C for its antiinflammatory properties,it does wonders for my dog, and maybe a b complex. The B complex idea is because she has constipation issues so I wonder how well she absorbs her vitamins in her intestinal tract. Other things I've thought of is doing a rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar after her shampoo. The Oatmeal shampoo helps for a day or so. I've been doing the shampoo once a week but haven't done the ACV yet. Another thing that the doc mentioned but I haven't heard of is DHEA. He says it is a plant based steroid and wont have the same effects as the steroid shots. He has used it in a few of the stubborn allergy cases that can't have depo and he has had success. Im a little leary as I haven't found much info on it except I did find it in a supplement for dogs and cats at a natural pet store online, forgot where. Running out of ideas. Her allergies aren't as terrible as some I've seen. She isn't ripping fur out, but she is super itchy and has the scabs under the fur. Any ideas?
