I still don't understand what the answer is supposed to be, or where you would get it?Originally Posted by Persi & Alley
If your cat weighed ten pounds and had a brain that weighed 8 ounces, then that cat's brain would weigh 5% of its body weight. If that same cat's owner weighed 200 pounds and had a brain that weighed 30 pounds, then the human's ratio would be 15%, or 3 times that of a cat.
Looking at the question, the last sentence would have to read: or 3 times that of a cat, not 40 times that of a cat.

Some people still use this ratio as a fast gauge of intelligence, do you give it any creedence? Are you twice as smart as a cat or forty times as a cat? Most scientists have a chart that shows relavent intelligence, primates, including humans filled the top ten and the pig came in 11th. Do you agree with this chart? The elephant is #12, do you agree?

Replace all the red letters and numbers with realistic and scientific info, but do NOT tell where you found the info.
Arent these the same thing??? Nothing in red was replaced. Or am I missing something?Originally Posted by Persi & Alley

If you went through the Cat Snips and then followed the Stupid Cats link, you would find the scientific information he was talking about:If your cat weighed ten pounds and had a brain that weighed 8 ounces, then that cat's brain would weigh 5% of its body weight. If that same cat's owner weighed 200 pounds and had a brain that weighed 30 pounds, then the human's ratio would be 15%, or 3 times that of a cat.

So if we replace his 5% and 15% with the more realistic 1% and 2% you get a 1/10-lb (1.6 ounces) brain for a 10-lb cat and a 4-lb brain for a 200-lb person... which is 40 times that of a cats.A cat’s brain weighs 1% of the cat’s total weight. Our brain weighs 2% of our overall weight.
I dont think it matters either (brain size). Look at a bird's brain! And they talk! Sure it only mimics, but they still manage to learn the words. Also, look at the recently discussed homing pigeon... They manage to fit knowledge in a small package.Originally Posted by glitch
I think that the brain sizes dont matter, each animal has different capabilities, and different flaw! So I realy dont think the size of the cranium or brains can predict how smart someone will be or will now be!! There brains may just be mini sized with all the info minisized!!
In the human/cat brain ratio
the human brain is 2 1/2 % larger than the cat brain ratio,
