So, I took Piper in for her annual clipping at Petco today. I am checking her in, she is in her pet taxi, on the counter next to me. And these kids, about 6 of them, run up making all kinds of noise and trying to pet her. This freaks Piper out. #1: She's shy and doesn't like strangers too well, especially children! #2: When she is confined in her carrier, she feels clausterphobic and it makes her freak outs worse. #3: I don't like it when people have no respect and do not ask me first before petting or grabbing any of my babies!!!!!!
I quickly grab her away and tell the children "Please don't mess with her. She doesn't know you. I don't want you to get hurt." To which their mom replied in a snide and rude tone "Don't tell my children 'don't'! YOU shouldn't have a cat in here if she is dangerous to children! How irresponsible is that?" I looked her in the eyes and got snotty and rude myself and replied "M'am, you need to teach your children respect and common curtesy. It is not safe for them to run up on and grab any strange animal, especially in a place like Petco. You need keep your kids in check in places like this. If they get harmed, it would be your fault!"
The Petco manager, who had witnessed the whole thing came up to her and asked her to remove herself from the store with her children. I guess they'd been there for quite a while and they had been asked to leave the cats up for adoption alone and other people complained about her kids running up to and grabbing their pets!!! Geez, the nerve of some people!
