I knew this month would bring more obligations than I could possibly handle, and so far, it's exceeding my worst fears... but I wanted to slip in for a bit to see how everyone is. We had my cousin Jack and his fiancee here for the past few days -- we love Jack, and Erin is a lovely, sweet girl, smart and funny... we're just thrilled for them both!
But Jack is a Captain in the US Army, and he'll be going to Kuwait in March... and possibly from there to Iraq. Any spare vibes for a miraculous peace before that happens would be deeply appreciated.
In other news, my brother's fabulous night photography (with which I occasionally help a little) is really getting noticed online, and he sold his first set of prints the other day! He's crazy, going into the places he's going to, especially in the dead of night -- as his sister, I just want to smack him upside the haid sometimes. But I can't argue with the results he's getting. Here's his page on Flickr.com:

And I just have to share -- we have some home health workers coming in every couple of days to help my father with some things he can't do for himself anymore, and one of them is a man named Leonid, who was a doctor in Russia before he moved to the US. He's an older gentleman with a very deep voice, and he speaks very little English, but he's such a nice fellow... and he's crazy about my Pearl. Every time he comes over, he looks around for Pearl, bends down with his hand outstretched, and murmurs gravely in this rich Russian accent, "Come to me, my dear..."
And it's working! Pearl loves him now!
Okay, I've got to get back to work on all the million things I have to do before January 1st... everybody take care!
