pinkman here.
I was talking to my partner about treats and I was thinking maybe I'll try some niboshi dried sardines. Has anyone tried them? My cat loves crunchy treats such as Whole Life freeze-dried treats but I wanted to give her more options so she has some variety. I know fish shouldn't be a main part of a diet, but I think a small dried sardine once in a while won't kill her.
Niboshi are basically dehydrated whole sardines. I'm Japanese, and I used to have a ton of this stuff along with katsuobushi (bonito flakes) long ago when I was still living with my family. We use both niboshi and bonito flakes to make broth.
Does dehydrating a food decrease the amount of Omega-3's? Not that it matters so much because I'd feed these as a treat, but I'm just curious.
I'm thinking about purchasing some at my local Japanese grocer and see how she likes them. If not, I can always make soup.
