Says the gardener: "Well, I think the plant liked being put out of doors for the summer - and what turned out to be the fall and half the winter! (Making sure they didn't get frostbitten was part of the trick.)

"It was sheer luck. Until they bloomed, I had no idea they did that.
For those interested, I did see observations on the Web that suggest that it was the cooling nights that brought on the blooms. They don't get that indoors -- but that one did because it was outside."

Very good question! It sparked a bit of discussion, as we tried to figure it out, and the nearest we can come is 17 or 18 years with us, having come from friends who were moving out of town. It and its mate were pretty small then.

OMG I am jealous. I have 2 small Jade plants in the unheated upstairs bedroom for the winter. They are doing well though. I would love to bring them into the living area, but I am afraid Beeba would eat them and I don't know if they are poisonous.

Nice job with that gorgeous plant!
