I didn't know that was a marking behavior.
Dexter does it to our shower stall wall and to our balcony's sliding glass door.
They look so silly when they do it.

That's exactly Steve!

He only does it at the back door in the sunroom.

One day Rob was on the other side when Steve was pawing and I told Rob to knock on the door. Rob knocked and Steve flew back so fast he almost did a backwards somersault! I've never laughed so hard in my life.

I would say that he wants to open it, or originally wanted it open, but now either he is just trying to get more attention on himself, or is finding it fun

tabitha does that on the french doors when she wants to come in. leaves lovely muddy smears in the winter.

however it is funny to see her from the other side, she really works those paws a treat!

i'll try and get a vid of her next time she does it.
