My 1 year old male cat had an exciting day yesterday. He had a bad infestation of fleas, so we took him to get groomed last weekend and fogged the apartment while he was gone. But the fleas came back in 48 hours. So, we took him back to the groomers yesterday and re-fogged the apartment with two foggers (one in each room) instead of one like last time. We made sure to come back in two hours, opened all the windows, put fans up and vacuumed everything (carpets, couches, cat tree). We replaced his litter and Clorox wiped the box before adding more to it.
Anyway, we left the fans in the windows, picked up the cat, then drove him 30 minutes to my parents' house (we are leaving him there when we go on our honeymoon next month and wanted him to get used to the space). He meowed and freaked the whole car ride (we let him loose instead of putting him the carrier so he could explore a bit white driving). He was a bit upset when first getting into the 'rents house, but soon warmed up when they came home. He met their cat, they hissed at each other, so we kept them separated. He also met their big black lab. Fur on back went up, tail got big, but doggy sniffed kitty and kitty was fine.
While there, my cat didn't eat, drink or use the potty, but he ran around like crazy about an hour before we left. He got super hyper and then slept with my parents for a bit. The car ride home he meowed and complained, but was otherwise ok.
When we got him home, the first thing he did was potty and drink a lot of water. Ate some food, I think as well. But before I could get the mattress protector on the bed, he had laid on it twice. It was the only surface that hadn't been vacuumed after the fogging, so I tossed him out in fear he'd get some of the residue on him. After that, I put the protector on and he settled down a bit.
But about halfway through the night, I noticed him getting a tad lethargic. Not getting up much and just lying around sleeping. In the morning, he was sleeping on the sofa instead of our bedroom, but my husband jostled him a bit and said he woke up a little. Then kitty came in and slept with us for a bit, clawed the bed (bad kitty!) and looked outside for a while. He likes looking through the sliding glass door in our bedroom.
But since then, all he's done is slept. All day. He's very lazy today. He did eat some tuna, but I haven't seen him drink or go potty today. He might have, but I haven't seen it. He's not dehydrated (I checked his elasticity), but I don't know if he has a fever or not. Nose dry, but ears cool. I also checked to see what the symptoms of toxicity to pesticides were, and he's not showing any signs of those. Oh, and he's been sneezing a lot with some dust allergies lately, but no goopy eyes or nose or wheezy breathing.
Is it possible for kitty to still be stressed out about his exciting day or is something else wrong I should be concerned about? My work is pretty strict about me being there all the freaking time, so it will be hard to visit the vet tomorrow during the day. I just want to know what I should do.
