Boomer is our office cat & he had those nasty 'rice' segments coming out of his behind. The vet gave me two options: either treating via pill or the Profender. Since there were some disadvantages with the pill (e.g. my inability to get the pill down his throat, etc...), I opted for the latter. It wasn't until after she treated him did I read about the horrific experiences of some who used it. Thankfully, Boomie had no adverse reactions whatsoever and I am amazed at how fast the stuff worked. I'm not exaggerating; I did not see ONE of those 'nasties' make an appearance after we got back from the vet's which is only about 10-15 minutes away from our office. Since he is an indoor/outdoor cat and a hunter, I would assume one of his catches was the source of this parasite. The vet said I have to give him a 2nd dose of the Profender in two weeks & then, because of his hunting habits, should continue with quarterly treatments. I don't feel right about that. I don't care to use these toxic products, so might seek an alternative, if there is one available. He has no fleas and I attribute that to the Sentry Natural Defense I've been using on him. It has a strong scent - lemony/cloves - but to me, not unpleasant. Well, I hope you find the right treatment.
