My little kittens are 5 weeks old, and we just started introducing them to the box because there starting to poop around the house. 2 of the kittens try to eat the litter. Is there anyway to train them to go into the box w/o eating the kitty litter?
I hope you aren't using a clumping brand of litter....if so, I would immediately switch them over to a biodegradible variety (ie feline pine). There isn't a way to train them to not eat the litter...kittens like babies will try to taste things...so that is why it is critical to not use a clumping litter.Originally Posted by lilboardingurl6

If I'm not mistaken...tidycats has the little balls. I would advise you to switch to Feline Pine which is made of sawdust and cannot harm these kittens as it is biodegradible. Petsmart has their own brand which is a bit cheaper. The other option is to use clay litter which is a fine powder.Originally Posted by lilboardingurl6
we do not use the clumping kind of kitty litter, we use the tidycats brand. Its just the regular type of kitty litter. Does it hurt them it they try to eat that kind? They mom cat is just fine, so doesn't move the kitties anymore, and is more comfortable with us playing with them, but she likes to hoag all the food from the kittens so we have to try to make it so the kittens get first dibs on the canned food.
Just be aware that it doesn't necessarily hide the smell as well as tidy cats...but it is definately safer for them to ingest accidentally..and the bonus is that I found it much easier to clean up.Originally Posted by lilboardingurl6
wow thanks, looked at a petstore online near me, and it happens to be cheaper then the tidy cats! 4.47 for 7 lbs bag, and i don't even need that much.
Just use Feline Pine for now....otherwise, your kittens could still ingest some of the Tidy Cats litter.Originally Posted by lilboardingurl6
so im guessing you have more of an idea on how to use the Feline Pine, should I just put it into the box, or put the tidy cats on the bottem and the feline pine on top?
