So, our resident cat-Jazzy, is 5 years old. Unfortunately she has been declawed, because of parents not wanting her to ruin the furniture :argh:They will be the same breed, siberians. The kitten will be 12 weeks of age when s/he comes home.

What worries me is that our current cat has no claws,& our new kitten will. I'm not sure if we should do anything different.

Oh dear - sad to hear that your parent's declawed your 5 year old Siberian. :( Well, for sure you won't make their mistake with your new kitten!! It will be very easy to teach your kitten all about nail trimming. Just the tips. My cats claws are trimmed every week or two. They are all trained and trust me to do a good job. I will post some articles on that subject plus one on introducing cats to each other. Surely introducing a kitten is much easier than introducing an adult cat but steps should still be taken to make sure your older resident cat will not be too offended or too rough with the new kitten. Keep them separated for at least two weeks. I have a "safe" room for kittens/cats. Even when I introduce kittens to resident cats, I always keep them in their room at night OR more importantly, when I am gone, even after the two weeks are up. To me, it is better in the long run to make sure the first few weeks of introducing a new kitty to the household goes really, really well and no bad first impression mistakes are made to damage new lifelong relationships in the making.
