I'm watching something kind of interesting here. My senior cat, Merfy, who has been slowly beginning to tolerate my rescued new kitten, Isosceles (who, after over two weeks, finally has a clean enough bill of health to interact).
The senior cat has just walked over, very slowly, to about 6 feet from where the kitten is sitting on the couch. She hissed once. The kitten just looked at her.
Then Merfy very calmly sat down, and slowly, very slowly, opened and closed her eyes (I've heard that this is friendly behavior?). Isosceles did this back. Every time he looks away she stops doing it. When he looks back she begins slowly opening and closing her eyes again. There's clearly some kind of communication going on here.
Now the kitten has begun to fall asleep.
