Hi Everyone,

My Senior Kitty has arthritis and IBD. He’s on a lot of meds for his IBD, so we are pretty limited in medications that we can give him for his arthritis because they can upset his GI system. He gets gabapentin for the pain, but that’s not doing anything to help with the underlying inflammation.

I talked to his Internist about a possible injection, but she wasn’t aware of any options. He has an apt. with his primary vet next week, and I’m going to ask him about it. I think it’s more common in dogs than cats. We have lots of specialists in my area, but unfortunately I don’t know of any ortho specialists :-(

You can look into laser therapy to help with arthritis in cats. I've heard favorable things about this treatment. Here is a helpful Article for you about arthritis and joint pain: Arthritis And Joint Pain In Cats
Best of luck with your boy. Please keep us posted. :hugs:

I started my arthritic kitty on Cosequin. It took seven weeks before I noticed a difference. She got it two times a day in her food every day for 6 weeks and is now getting it two times a day every other day as a maintenance dose. She’s been on it for more than eight weeks at this point and seems improved.

I ordered it online from Costco. It was less expensive there than anywhere else I looked.

Our Yoshi has mild arthritis and I've been giving him Nodens brand Glucosamine, Chondroitin, Hyaluronic acid and Opti-MSM® combination. It did take at least a week before there was any noticable change. As far as pricing, I've only been able to find it from Nodens through Amazon. In the morning he licks it from the dropper (he's part dog) and in the evening I put it in both his and his brothers food since Sqeeker is only a yr younger.

Neither or them have shown and digestive problems from it.

Here are some older threads about arthritis in cats:

One recommendation was a heated bed. Have you tried that for your kitty?
