I recently got my cat, Melanie, spayed. She had 2 unexpected litters already so as soon as she was able we took her in. The vet said that everything went fine, but over the past few days she has been losing chunks of fur on her face. It seems like every time I look at her there is more missing.
I called the vet and they said that she was allergic to fleas and that was causing it. I have had my house infested with fleas to the point that there was always at least 10 on each of our legs (was a horrible summer D. I recently moved to a new house away from the dog that caused the infestation and got both of my cats flea baths/ treatments. We also vacuum daily... These cats are being exposed to the least amount of fleas in their lives, so I'm seriously doubting that fleas are causing this.
There is also a small amount of yellow crust around the incision. And I'm not sure if this is normal, but there is a yellow/brown circle next to the incision site. about an 1/2- 1 inch below the incision there is a lil swelling.
Another thing I thought that might be causing it is stress. She had a litter 8-9 weeks ago and I took her away from her kittens early. Then there was a week long car ride to move cross county. Now she is living in an apartment that is constantly changing since we are still setting up. And then we got her fixed. (We had planned on waiting a lil bit for things to calm down before we did that, but Sacramento is currently having a free spay/ neuter clinic http://www.saccounty.net/news/latest-news/Pages/No-Cost-Spay-and-Neuter-Programs-Now-Available.aspx , so we thought it was best to do it now). (here is a link to the thread about the move in case anyone needs more info or whatever http://www.thecatsite.com/t/295442/taking-mamma-cat-away-from-kittens-too-early#post_3724909)
So maybe the fur thing is stress? I have no idea, I feel so bad for my lil kitty.
