My cat has gotten out twice, once through a window and once when i came in on the phone and left the door open.

Both times He stayed with 20 feet of his departure point and quietly explored.

Do indoor cats normally do this or do they normally run off and get lost?

I am realyy worried and want to prevent thhis from something bad. Dont they have live gps trackers they can put on their collar?

You can get him microchipped. If he's ever found and picked up, they can scan for the microchip and find your contact information. It isn't a GPS, more like an electronic ID tag.
If I'm not mistaken, most cats won't wander far. If he does disappear, you can leave out food and water for him and await for his return. But cats are sneaky so if you don't want him to go outside, be vigilant about doors and windows.
