Hello!

My 3 year old Devon Rex has been having problems for about 2 years now. She leaks urine when she is in a deep sleep.

We have done all the tests at the vet and the can find nothing in her urine or blood, no spinal injuries, nothing!

The constant protection and failed protection of all furniture and beds at home is causing me so much stress and I just want her to get better!

Does anyone have any advice on this problem?

Thanks 🙏

Hi, I don't have suggestions regarding her specifically, but if you don't have these already you will want to consider unscented pee pads. There are all different sizes and reusable/washable as well as disposable.

Hi. I assume she is spayed. Did she have litters of kittens before? Sometimes, that can cause weak urogenital muscles that are even more relaxed during sleep. Or, it could be a hormonal imbalance, so you might ask your vet about that possibility.

It might be an idea to consult with a specialty vet who deals in urology and share the results of all the tests you had done. They may have thoughts on other possible issues and related treatments.

I would cage her at night if that is the worst time, but I would have the vet check her too! good luck!

There has got to be some specialist/uninologist who can help. I DID just Google “can cats wear diapers?” and apparently they can, but, that is no solution, on many levels. You have a very adorable cat indeed, just saying.

Bad dreams? My cat meows in her sleep and moves her body. Nice meows so they aren't bad dreams. I agree with seeing a specialist.

Given this started at one year old, I would also consult a specialist if she were my cat. If you use diapers, which is not a bad idea, be sure to take them off during the day and mind the skin in that area so that irritation does not result.

Is it kind of a slow continuous dribble, or are there times when she’s asleep and not leaking and then all the sudden it starts?

Is it accompanied by other things like twitching in her sleep at the time the leaking occurs?

Are there particular sleeping positions where it does or doesn’t happen?
