My cat Mowgli has a new problem that has risen. This weekend he started urinating in his sleep. He is not squatting or doing this on purpose. He is sleeping when this happens.

A quick bit of history: Heâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s a 9yr old Manx (full, not a rumpy or rump riser) with a deformed spine near the rump area. His neurologist and spine doc keep an eye on this so this is not a major functioning issue as of yet. Just little issues that I can deal with at home. He does suffer from SEVERE constipation, but it seems as of today we are still on the good path. In other words, his colon was clear today. He does have the start of kidney issues, but having been through CRF with another cat, the stage were at is just at the very beginning of it. This is also monitored every three months by the vet.

Now, first thing this morning we went to the vet. There is no UTI and his colon is clear. The vet just wants to wait and see if this continues before contacting a kidney specialist about meds to put him on for incontinence. So now I ask…...Does anyone have experience with incontinence while sleeping? (Not you, your cat!
) Any suggestions? Any meds to stay away from? Or any other thoughts about what you might think could be going on?

I don't have any experience in this, but wanted to offer my support to you and Mowgli. I have not ever had to deal with anything like this in a cat, yet, and I will be very interested in Mowlgi's story and how he gets on.

You might keep puppy pads in his sleeping spots while you cope with it with pieces of thin fleece blankies on top for comfort? They wash and dry so easy.

All paws crossed for Mowgli!

My Princess Gina has this problem. It is not wet where she sleeps, but sometimes she leaks a bit. We have seen the Vet several times for this problem, last time they did a complete senior panel on her, she is 8. They found everything was completely normal. No infection or crystals. She was put on Royal Canin Urinary SO, and I also was told to give her wet food along with it. She has a Drinkwell fountain. I also feed her baked chicken. yes,I am her slave.

One vet recomended a homeopathic medicine, I give her that, I can get the name for you. I also giver her Uri-gel Paw paste, she loooooooves it. (it stinks) I have done a lot of research online for this problem, I just dont want her to be uncomfortable. I read that some cats just get irritable bladders as they age. To keep the urine from irritating her skin, I bathe her every couple days in the sink, just her back end. I read that stress can contribute to the condition, she is a timid little thing, so I try to keep her calm. bath time is not so calm, LOL.
Now all that being said, we have a new granite countertop that she thinks is a great litter box alternative. Usually, tho, she uses the box, she does not strain. I read that this condition is sporadic, which sounds about right. Anyways these are my suggestions, what is helping for us.
